Holidays for July 21st 2013

Legal Drinking Age Day

It's July you know where your alcoholic beverage is????
That's right.  Today is National Legal Drinking Age Day!  Bet you didn't know that.  Now you do.  So if you are 21...or 18 in other countries...
...go on and grab yourself a refreshing alcoholic beverage and celebrate your legalness!  What are you waiting for?  Oh, riiiight....5 o'clock.  Me too!

National Ice Cream Day

"I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!" Shout this mantra from the rooftops, because today is National Ice Cream Day!
In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month. He also declared that the third Sunday in July would be National Ice Cream Day. We’re definitely thankful, because ice cream is a summertime (or anytime!) favorite for people of all ages. With hundreds of flavors and toppings to choose from, you can't go wrong with ice cream!
Whether you get it in a cup or in a cone, atop a waffle or in a banana split, make sure to visit your local ice cream shop today to get some cold, delicious ice cream. Watch out for ice cream events and freebies happening in your area! Happy National Ice Cream Day!

National Junk Food Day

It’s National Junk Food Day! Do you have a sweet tooth? Or are you constantly craving salty snacks? Well, today is the day to indulge all your junk food cravings!
Did you know that the average American eats about 25 pounds of candy per year? What’s more, each American will consume about 45 slices of pizza annually. Now that’s a lot of sweet and salty goodness!
Grab a bag of buttery popcorn at the movies, order some fries at the drive-through, or make an ice cream sundae for dessert. Whatever you do, enjoy National Junk Food Day with at least one of your guilty pleasures!

Celebrated annually on July 21, it is National Creme Brulee Day!  Get ready to enjoy a dish of this mouth-watering rich dessert.
Creme brulee is also known as burnt cream, crema catalana and Trinity creme.  It is a dessert that consists of a rich custard base that is topped with a contrasting layer of hard caramel and served at room temperature.
The custard base is usually vanilla flavored but has variations of: lemon, orange, rosemary, lavender, chocolate, Amaretto, Grand Marnier, cinnamon, coffee, liqueurs, green tea, pistachio, hazelnut, coconut or other fruit.
The earliest known reference of creme brulee, as we know it today, appears in Francois Massialot’s 1691 cookbook.

National Tug-Of-War Tournament Day

Split into two teams, and the last one standing wins! July 21 is National Tug of War Tournament Day, and there’s only one way to celebrate: play tug of war!
Historians think some version of tug of war has been played for many centuries, all the way back to both ancient Egypt and ancient China. Today, formal organizations play by set rules, with eight people to a team and a muddy “moat” between them. The goal is to pull the rope at least four meters or cause the opponents to fall down (and hopefully get very muddy!).
